Dark Light

Weekends are really short, and if you sleep on the weekends, then it’s shorter. So, I thought to spend some time outside last week, and the bachelor mind went up to the shopping malls to roam around. I kept on roaming many stores and finally decided to buy a pair of shoes. While I was checking out the shoes, I came to hear a couple discussing something just next to me in the shop. They were arguing with someone who is messing up their house and crying all night. Initially, I thought they talked about their kids and then realized they are arguing about their dog – Olive. Olive seems to be a 20-pound baby girl, and she pawed at the wife from behind on a rainy night. And the wife has adopted her since that day. Since the husband (father of adopted Olive) was not asked about his wife’s decision, he was not happy. And, now they are discussing it even on the weekend outside the home!

When the wife brought the dog home for the first time, she was not timid; rather bounced around and took a flying leap into her lap and she got her new name (Olive) and became a member of the family. As per the wife, Olive is perfectly “normal” as she finds it difficult to be left alone. But the husband thinks – Olive is not normal as she keeps on jumping the entire house and sleeps on their couch. The wife finds Olive’s eyes are most understanding and best sloppy kisses around, where this is the reason for her husband’s irritation.

Olive is the best companion for the wife when she cooks, whatever TV show she watches, wherever she goes. Olive even knows to pick letters, papers, and magazines, and she is adorable. To the husband, Olive makes a lot of mess at home; they can’t go out, leaving her alone, and she jumps onto neighbors.

I did not intend to listen to what they are discussing but could not stop either. They seemed to complete their shopping and went out of the mall, but the argument seemed still on. After some time, I came after my shopping and found the couple is still arguing in the parking lot, and I looked whether Olive is around. When the wife opened their car door, Olive came out, and she is really adorable and worth to be fought for.

While Olive was circling, the wife came a bit on the road on another car’s way.  The car stopped and honked badly at the wife. The husband rushed immediately and said sorry to the driver. But, Olive started barking very badly at the driver. Olive was furious as she thought the car driver was about to hit her master.

After the car went from that place, there is a moment of silence. Olive was still looking angry towards the car, running away from them.

The husband and wife both were looking into each other’s eyes and probably talked something in silence…

I think their silent talk was about Olive and how much she loves the wife; the husband might have said sorry for not understanding the wife, and, after all, how much he loves his wife.

I just crossed them and broke the silence by asking, “She is cute; who is she?” The wife responded promptly, “she is my kid.”

The husband immediately responded, “she is our kid. Her name is Olive”. I said, “Hi Olive” and “Welcome to the family, Olive” in silence.
